Coronavirus (COVID-19) Notice

18 September 2020

On the 16th of September Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced the resumption of elective surgery in metro Melbourne to 75%, commencing 28 September. Our Melbourne clinics will contact all patients on waiting lists for surgery at a Vison Eye Institute day surgery to confirm a procedure date post 27 September.

In the meantime, the Department of Health and Human Services in Victoria has clarified that people can still leave home and travel more than 5km to attend an urgent specialist consultation. Vision Eye Institute clinics in Melbourne remain open for urgent consultations and will resume routine consultations from 28 September. Our doctors will continue to offer telehealth consultations, where appropriate. All visitors (including patients and carers) are required to wear a face mask to gain entry into a Vision Eye Institute clinic or day surgery in Victoria.

Our commitment to the health and wellbeing of our patients, staff and doctors remains our top priority and we continue to observe strict infection control protocols and social distancing measures. If you have any questions regarding your scheduled appointment, please do not hesitate to contact us. We will contact you if there are any changes to your scheduled appointment(s).

COVID-19 Update

Following the latest advice from The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO), we are encouraging all patients with existing eye conditions and/or new symptoms to seek attention from an eye care specialist.

In particular, patients with conditions such as glaucoma and macular degeneration are urged to prioritise their eye care appointments, since missed or delayed treatments can lead to irreversible vision loss.

If you are concerned about leaving home, please be assured that protecting the health and wellbeing of our patients, carers, staff and doctors remains our top priority. All clinics and day surgeries will continue to observe strict infection control protocols and social distancing measures to ensure a safe environment for your medical care.

If you are attending an appointment, we ask that you:

  • Let us know prior to any scheduled appointment or surgery if you have returned from overseas travel, reside in (or have visited) a known high-risk area with a cluster of cases or had contact with a suspected or confirmed case of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the last 14 days
  • Only attend your appointment or surgery with a maximum of one carer
  • Only attend your appointment or surgery if you are well and do not have a temperature, cough or cold
  • Do not attend earlier than your appointment time.

If attending an appointment, you will be asked to read the information on the external signage and sign a declaration confirming that you meet all of the conditions prior to gaining entry.

As a further safety precaution, a number of our larger clinics have implemented a concierge service to screen patients before admitting them into the clinic.

Please do not attend your appointment if you reside with someone who is unwell or has been asked to quarantine.
Alcohol-based hand rub is available on arrival and all visitors are asked to clean their hands thoroughly on arrival. Please ensure you cover any coughs or sneezes with a tissue (and dispose of the tissue appropriately).

Each of our sites undertake regular cleaning of all surfaces, with ample supplies of hand sanitiser for staff and visitors.

We appreciate your assistance in ensuring we are able to safely meet the needs of our patients. As always, we will keep you informed of any further developments.

We recommend that all Australians download the COVIDSafe app. The app was developed to quickly identify and contact those who have been in close proximity to confirmed cases of COVID-19. More information on COVIDSafe may be found on the Department of Health website.

Information about COVID-19 and the COVIDSafe app is available in 63 languages on the Department of Home Affairs website.
